Committee

Your Committee

The committee works as a team to organise the activities of the sports club to ensure its development, make sure their activities are safe and effective and that the sports club members adhere to the Sports Code of Conduct.

Each committee must have a President, Captain and Treasurer. These are elected roles once a year. You are free to have other roles, but you must fill these two in order to be an affiliated sports team.

Top tips for collaborating with your committee

  • Create an yearly plan during your Annual General Meeting, from the start of the next academic year. This will give you goals to aim towards and ensure every committee member knows what you’re trying to achieve.

  • Include students from different years in your committee. This will increase the chance your sports club will live on to the next year with passionate and engaged team.

  • Have a forum online to discuss things openly with the committee. Facebook groups work well.

  • Share a team to-do list. This allows others to pick up tasks if one person is struggling. We recommend

    Trello.

Committee Conflict

Sports committee's work very closely throughout the year and can sometimes face challenging situations. If your sports club or committee is facing a conflict we encourage you to try and deal with conflicts amongst yourself in the first instance. If you cannot deal with it amongst yourselves, the SU can help to mediate the issue. Contact the Sports Coordinator to discuss the situation. All discussions will be kept confidential. Depending on the situation, they will work with you to find an appropriate means of dealing with the conflict.

This could include a round table discussion between everyone involved, mediated by the Sports Coordinator, to address the conflict and agree a plan of action to tackle it and move forward.
