External Speakers

External speaker requests

An external speaker is anyone who is coming to speak at your event, or deliver an aspect of your event, who is not a Goldsmiths student or staff member.

You must request clearance for an external speaker through the room booking form with at least 25 working days notice.

Why?

  • The university needs 10 working days to process any external speaker

  • We need to ensure you have staff support which can include security, bar staff, door staff and tech staff!

  • We need to ensure you have the correct technical equipment

  • You can only promote your event when your external speaker is confirmed, therefore you will want as much time as possible to let people know

  • If you've invited somebody in, you want to make sure they have a big audience - especially if you're spending money on them!

  • This gives you 5 weeks to plan, organise, promote, sell tickets and delegate for the event!

You need to get clearance for speakers at any venue on campus. Any sports team that hosts an external speaker - regardless of content - and does not get clearance will be disaffiliated.

It’s important that the university understands the nature of your event, so they can make extra arrangements in the case that it may be controversial or we may need extra security. Regardless of this reasoning, you must fill in the form even if your event is unlikely to be deemed controversial or dangerous.
